Hannover travel guide

The city of Hanover is located in central Europe on the river Leine. Originally just a small fishing village, Hanover didn’t begin to grow significantly until the 13th and 14th Century.
Hanover was bombed heavily during the Second World War and not many historical buildings of note remain within the city although a few buildings such as the Old Town Hall dating back to the 15th Century remain. The remaining 40 or so historical buildings that survived the war were ‘uplifted’ and moved to one area, The Aldstadt (Old Town) creating a somewhat surreal old new town.
Hannover is one of the major Expo centres of Europe and every year in March plays host to the largest computer expo in the world, CeBIT.
The city of Hanover has a number of parks and open green areas the most memorable of which is probably The Great Garden of Herrenhausen, a 17th century baroque interpretation of the garden at Versailles in France.
Fireworks are a big thing in Hanover with firework displays being held on a daily basis culminating in the world competition during the summer months.
