Frankfurt, birthplace of Goethe and financial capital of Germany is located in the Southwest of the country on the Main River. A metropolis of high rises and Skyscrapers the city of Frankfurt is also home to the second busiest airport in Europe.
The city is divided by the Main River with the city centre being located on the North side and the South side being dominated by the 48 square kilometres Frankfurt City Forest.
Whilst being home to some of the largest trade fairs in the world such as the Frankfurt International Book Fair, the city also plays host to some significant historical places of interest. St Paul’s, the seat of the first democratically elected parliament in Germany in 148 is located in Frankfurt as well as St Bartholomeus Cathedral dating back to the 14th Century. Another firm favourite amongst visitors to the city is Römer, the City Hall of Frankfurt for the last 600 years with its charming Eastern Façade.
Visitors to the city of Frankfurt will not be disappointed with the vast array of classical and cultural events that are on offer throughout the year. The Frankfurt Opera is considered to be one of the finest in the world and received the highly acclaimed prize of Opera House of the year both in 1997 and 2003.
