Dresden, the capital of the German federal state of Saxony is located in the East of the country in a valley along the river Elbe. This incredible city and important centre of culture within Germany is located just 2 hours south of Berlin.
A city that suffered much heavy bombing during the Second World War, Dresden is a city that has seen much attention towards returning it to its former glory.
Home to a wealth of Baroque architecture the city of Dresden doesn’t fail to offer its guests an endless stream of places of interest to visit such as Dresden Castle and the world renowned Semper Opera House, home to the Saxon State Opera.
The city of Dresden much like many other German cities is drenched in public park space such as Großer Garten (Big Garden) and a number of places from which to enjoy the Elbe river such as Bruhl’s Terrace affectionately known as ‘The Balcony of Europe’.
Shopping, restaurants and hotels are not in short supply in Dresden with the city offering a wide range of services to satisfy all budgets. As would be expected with a city of the stature of  Dresden there is a continual flow of events and festivities throughout the year including the largest Dixieland Jazz festival taking place during May each year.
