Berlin travel guide

Berlin, the capital and largest city in Germany is the second most populated city in Europe (only London has a higher population).
Located in the north east of the country, Berlin is one of the most diversely interesting cities you will ever visit. Boasting 150 theatres, 3 opera houses over 200 galleries and some of the best nightlife in Europe Berlin really is a city that ‘has something for everyone’.
Visitors to Berlin are automatically drawn to the remains of the Berlin wall that divided the city into East and West until it was dramatically pulled down in 1989 resulting in a city reunited. Many of the symbols of the cold war remain such as ‘Checkpoint Charlie’ and many parts of the wall have been adapted to create points of interest such as The East Side Gallery in Friedrichshain, an open air exhibition of art work on one of the remaining pieces of the wall. The city of Berlin although relatively young compared to other European cities is home to many other historical places of interest such as The Brandenburg gate, The Reichstag building and the Kaiser Wilhelm memorial church, destroyed during the second world war and left standing in the middle of the city as a stark reminder of the horrors of war.
Berlin is a great city for shopping with every taste catered for. Head to the Kurfurstendam also known as the Kudamm for some of the finest shops in the city.
With no one particular centre, Berlin is rather a city of districts that blend in to one another. Abound with parks and rivers the city of Berlin is one of the greenest cities in Europe with around 60% of the city being made up of either water or park land creating a perfect environment in which to enjoy a city break.
